WHEAT KINGS TRIM ROSTER

Press Release

Brandon, MB. – The Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings trimmed their roster to 24 players Tuesday morning when they reassigned three 16-year old prospects.

The three players are defencemen Colton Waltz and forwards Tim McGauley and Taylor Cooper.

While Waltz was Brandon’s first selection (3rd round) of the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, McGauley was one of two prospects obtained from the Blades in last January’s blockbuster trade that saw all star center Brayden Schenn go to Saskatoon.

Cooper meanwhile was chosen in the 6th round of last year’s bantam draft.

Of the three, only McGauley saw action during the team’s season opening home and home series with the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Wilcox, Saskatchewan product was a -1 in two games. In pre-season play, Waltz had two assists in three games and Cooper was 0-1-1 in four.

Cooper and McGauley will report to their AAA Midget teams in Sherwood Park and Notre Dame respectively, while Waltz is expected to play for Bonneyville of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Tuesday’s move leaves the Wheat Kings with two goalkeepers, 9 defencemen and thirteen forwards.

Brandon returns to action Wednesday night in Swift Current when the Broncos host the Wheat Kings in the first of a home and home series. The two teams will close out the 2-game series Friday night at Westman Place.
