Warriors name veteran rearguard Berglund captain

Press Release

The Westside Warriors have named Izaak Berglund as their captain for the upcoming BCHL season.

The 20-year-old inherits the “C” from Alex Grieve, who graduated from the Warriors last year and is set to play collegiate hockey at Bentley this season.

“It’s a great honour and privilege to be named captain” says Berglund of the news. “I’m excited for this responsibility and I’m going to do my best.”

The rugged blueliner hails from Little Falls, Minnesota, and will lead a strong and mobile defensive corps for Westside this year.

“As always, the big goal is to go to the RBC Cup and win a championship” Berglund says of the coming campaign. “It’s going to take some work, but I think we have the group of guys to accomplish that goal. We just need to work hard and stay on the right track.”

Berglund will be assisted by a trio of BCHL veterans. Returning Warriors Max French and Shawn Hochhausen (both local products) will be alternate aptains, as will Richard Vanderhoek, who was acquired from the Surrey Eagles in the offseason.

The Warriors open the regular season this Friday night (Sept. 23) in Trail.
