STORM WELCOME BACK DEFENSEMAN AMBURGEY

Press Release

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Tri-City Storm have added free-agent defenseman Tyler Amburgey from the Clark Cup Champions – Dubuque Fighting Saints.

Storm General Manager and Head Coach Drew Schoneck made the announcement Friday morning before the season opener against the Sioux City Musketeers.

“We are excited to get Tyler back into a Storm jersey this season,” said Schoneck, about the native of Rowlett, Texas. “He just finished a successful season in Dubuque and has championship experience in the USHL.”

“It is always good when you can add a player like Tyler, who brings multiple assets to our defense right away, and can be a leader on the back end.”

Amburgey, 20, had eight points (3 G, 5 A) and 77 penalty minutes in 55 games last season for the Fighting Saints. He added three assists in 11 games in route to the expansion clubs championship in the playoffs.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound rearguard played for the Storm in 2009-10, where he posted 11 points (6g, 5a) in 44 games and assisted in leading the Storm into the playoffs in 2010.

Amburgey was drafted by the Waterloo Black Hawks in the first round (9th overall) of the 2009 USHL Entry Draft from the United States National Team Developmental Program – Team USA U18. He was traded three months later to the Storm following the 2009 USHL Fall Classic. In two seasons with Team USA, he posted 19 points (5g, 14a) and 159 penalty minutes in 114 games with the national team.

The regular season opens at home on Friday, September 30 for the Storm against the Sioux City Musketeers (The Breeze 94.5 FM) at the Viaero Event Center.
