Eagles D-man alum Sweeney suiting up for Michigan Tech Huskies

Press Release

Surrey Eagles defenceman Riley Sweeney had a career year last season and it paid off with him accepting an offer to attend Michigan Tech University for the current campaign.

The Delta native split the 2009-10 season between the Willams Lake Timberwolves and the Eagles but last season he played all 60 games in Surrey which allowed him to flourish and show his skills. He talled 10 goals and 28 assists to go along with 28 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound rearguard is a 1992-born player and could have spent two more seasons in the BCHL but Michigan Tech felt he was ready to join them now.

For his BCHL career, Sweeney racked up 14 goals and 47 assists in 113 games with 58 minutes in penalties.

On Michigan Tech's blueline, he joins fellow BCHL grad Justin Fillion who split last season between the Prince George Spruce Kings and the Victoria Grizzlies.Surrey Eagles defenceman Riley Sweeney had a career year last season and it paid off with him accepting an offer to attend Michigan Tech University for the current campaign.
