Markus Gerbrandt Accepts Scholarship to Bemidji State

Press Release

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are pleased to announce that 20 year old forward Markus Gerbrandt (Edmonton, Alberta) has accepted a scholarship to attend and play for Bemidji State (NCAA Div. I) starting in the 2012-2013 season. The Bemidji State Beavers play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).

Markus is currently in his 3rd year as an Oil Baron where he has posted 29 goals and 28 assists in 52 games this year, his best offensive output during his time in the AJHL. Over his career, Markus has played in 194 games and accumulated 82 goals and 102 assists for 184 points.

Markus has been an invaluable member of the Oil Baron organization and his contributions are greater than simply supplying offence. He plays in all situations whether it's 5 on 5, taking important faceoffs, powerplay, penalty kill, and in any late game situation. His quiet leadership both on and off the ice has been a great example for all the younger Oil Barons to follow.

The Oil Barons organization would like to congratulate Markus and his family and wish him all the best in his future endeavours both academically and athletically.
