Auger, Vanier and Darcy named the TELUS three stars of the week

Sebastien Auger, Alexis Vanier and Cameron Darcy were named today, the TELUS three stars of the week for September 16 to 22, 2013.

The first star of the week is awarded to Sebastien Auger, the Saint John Sea Dogs goaltender. Auger faced an average of 41 shots per game during the weekend, giving his team the opportunity to collect 3 points out of a possible 4. Saturday, he was chosen the first star of the game with a 2-1 home win against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan making 44 saves, including 18 in a perfect 3rd period. He was also named the first star of the game against the Charlottetown Islanders, still undefeted in the 2013-14 season. Sunday, in a 3-2 loss, he forced a shootout, with 38 saves in the first 65 minutes of play. Moreover, he has been very effective in shootouts, stopping  6 out of 9 shots against him.

Alex Vanier, the Baie-Comeau Drakkar defenseman, is the second star of the week. Vanier, who turns 18 in December will be eligible for the next National Hockey League Draft in June. His game sheet is 6 points in 2 games. Friday, in a 7-4 win against Quebec, he played his best QMJHL game thus far with 5 points, a rare feat for a defenseman. Also, he was named the first star to the delight of the more than 2 500 fans present. He was the 3rd defenseman in the Drakkar’s history to collect at least 5 points in a game, the record belonging to Bruno St-Jacques with 6 points during the 1999-2000 season. Vanier collected another point on Sunday in a 6-3 win against the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.

The third star belongs to Cameron Darcy, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles forward. He scored 1 goal and added 2 assists on Sunday against the Halifax Mooseheads in the first 5-2 win for his team this season. He was named the first star on Friday, during a 5-4 loss for his team against the Islanders in  which Darcy scored 2 goals added an assist and 5 shots. In 2 games, he also excelled in face-offs with 56% wins . Since the opening of the season about tend ays ago, he collected 8 points and is in 1st place in QMJHL leading scorers tied with Christopher Caissy of the Moncton Wildcats and Alexis Vanier of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar
