Phantoms Name Larsson Captain For 2013-14 Season

Press Release

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Phantoms have named second-year center Alfred Larsson captain for the 2013-14 season, head coach Anthony Noreen announced today ahead of the team’s home opener Friday against the Green Bay Gamblers.

Larsson, 19, becomes the sixth captain in the franchise history, and first European-born player to wear the ‘C’ for the Phantoms. Additionally forwards Josh Nenadal, Tyler Spezia and Luke Stork and goaltender Sean Romeo will act as assistant captains. All five players were voted by their teammates and coaching staff.

“We believe that captains are men who represent our program the way we want in ever facet – in the community, in the weight room, in the locker room and on the ice,” Noreen said. “The only way to truly do that is to have the guys choose them and I believe the team executed what we asked them to do by voting for these five.”

A native of Malmö, Sweden, Larsson recorded eight goals, 11 assists and 19 points along with 62 penalty minutes in 49 games while excelling in a two-way role for the Phantoms last season. The 6-foot-5, 205-pound center is committed to Merrimack College.

“I don’t think you could find a guy who approaches the game exactly the way we want it better than Alfred Larsson,” Noreen said. “He treats it like a pro. He shows up at the rink with a smile on his face, puts his hard hat on and gets to work every single day.

“There’s nobody that says blue collar more than Alfred Larsson and that’s what we are here.”
