Lancers acquire defenseman Matt Nelson from Green Bay

Press Release

RALSTON, NE – On the eve of their 2013-14 United States Hockey League (USHL) regular season opener, the Omaha Lancers acquired defenseman Matt Nelson from the Green Bay Gamblers in exchange for a 2014 USHL Draft pick, the team announced Thursday. Nelson, an Edina, Minnesota native, will wear number 28 for the Lancers and is expected to make his Omaha debut Friday in the Lancers’ 2013-14 home opener vs. Fargo.

“Matt is a solid, two-way defenseman that we think will help our club this year,” said Lancers Head Coach and General Manager Brian Kaufman on Thursday. “We’re excited to bolster our defensive corps with [Matt’s] acquisition.”

In three appearances with the Gamblers last season, Nelson earned two penalty minutes and a minus-one rating, joining Green Bay after helping the Edina Hornets to the 2013 Minnesota State High School Tournament Championship. This season, Nelson appeared in the Gamblers’ season-opening 5-4 overtime loss vs. the Muskegon Lumberjacks on September 21st, earning a pair of penalty minutes in the Green Bay defeat.
