Lancers name captains for 2013-14 season

Press Release

RALSTON, NE – With their 2013-14 United States Hockey League (USHL) regular-season opener just four days away, the Omaha Lancers named second-year defenseman and future North Dakota blueliner Tucker Poolman as team captain for the 2013-14 season with veteran forwards Gage Hough, Tyler Hynes and Jake Randolph selected as assistant captains, the team announced Monday.

“Tucker is a leader both on and off the ice,” said Lancers Head Coach and General Manager Kaufman on Monday. “He conducts himself with respect and professionalism and we’re pleased he’ll be wearing the ‘C’ for us this season.”

Poolman, a native of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and all three assistant captains were tabbed following a players-only vote. “It’s a huge honor for [your] teammates to select you,” said Poolman Monday. “I think the four of us captains and the rest of the guys not wearing letters all bring different things to the table and we all work so well together…I think it’s going to be a great season.”

Last season, Poolman tied for the league lead in power-play goals with 12 in his first USHL campaign, a season in which he ranked third on the Lancers roster in goals with 14 and second among Omaha D-men in total points with 28. Randolph, a future Nebraska-Omaha winger and the Lancers’ leading scorer from a year ago with 13 goals and 44 total points, will wear the “A” in 2013-14 alongside an Omaha native in Hough, coming off a 20 point season (11G, 9A) and a returning 15-point man (6G, 9A) and Union College commit, Hynes.
